The name DuCane comes from the late Lord of the Manor Peter du Cane, Esq. of Coggeshall, who settled at Braxted in 1751, and was sheriff of the county and M.P. for Colchester in 1745.
The inspiration behind The DuCane as you see it today, is the realisation of a dream. Jonathan the Chef/patron, a local lad has hankered after opening a first class venue to provide a theatre for his cooking skills honed in some of the highest rated restaurants in the country. Offering discerning diners, tasty fresh locally sourced food that won’t break the bank, delicious wine, good beer and lots of banter to enjoy in an informal and convivial setting.
Jonathan the Head Chef and owner has spent 20 years working with some of the best known celebrity chefs. His passion for cooking good food is equal only to his determination to use local suppliers and the best ingredients to be found. We want to support local businesses and think that food miles should be reduced where possible.
Our local fishmonger collects the freshest fish from Billingsgate each morning. Our butcher believes an animal that has led a happy life produces great meat. Fruit and veg are grown in the district and comes in fresh from our green grocer – but don’t let that stop any keen gardeners or local suppliers impressing him with home grown produce.
Our aim is to be committed to quality and service, and to give our customers a great experience. If you need to know anything about our menu or ingredients just ask our manager.
Our excellent service team is always on hand to provide additional information and deliver a high standard of customer care. Headed up by Sam Rollo and his team of local staff we strive to exceed customer’s expectations and would like to think we go that extra yard to make every visit to the Ducane special.
